5 foods that will help you get the most out of your workouts

Extracting the maximum worth from every workout you partake in will be key to burning fat and achieving the toned body to which you aspire.

You may have seen people drinking protein shakes and bars to give them a boost, but you can get the same kind of boost from many other foods. Here are five examples of what we mean.

  1. Bananas

Bananas are a versatile fruit that you will have seen many sportspeople eating. The reason they are so popular is because they are a great source of protein, in addition to containing antioxidants.

When compared to sports drinks, research showed that bananas were as effective during cycle trials. So, the next time you are packing your sports training wear, don’t forget to pack some bananas.

  1. Greek yogurt

Greek yogurt is strained to make it thicker, which means it contains more protein than regular yogurt. With Greek yogurt containing 20-25 grams per serving, it has got to be an essential addition to your post-workout meal.

You can also add oats or fruit to the yogurt to create a satisfying and healthy breakfast.

  1. Mango

Once you’re out of your sports training wear, you may find that you are sore for a day or two, especially if you have only just started doing much working out recently.

To help you recover, you might consider eating mango, as it not only contains anti-inflammatory compounds but also vitamin C, beta carotene, and vitamin A.

  1. Pasta

This is another popular food among those who work out a lot. Pasta contains carbohydrates that your body needs to work your muscles.

You probably know that ‘carb loading’ is a common practice before events such as marathons or cycling competitions. Adding pasta to vegetables and other lean proteins will give you the energy boost you need.

  1. Nut butters

Just like eating nuts, nut butter is an effective way to get protein and B vitamins into your diet.

You can spread it on toast or bread, but it also makes a great thickener for smoothies – especially those after your workout to help you recover.

The above are just some of the foods that you might add to your diet in order to optimise your workout routine. Combine them with the right sports training wear that flatters your figure and makes you feel comfortable when challenging your personal bests, and you will be well-placed to get even more out of your fitness efforts.
